the "best" show
i was in the car for 5 hours yesterday. wiley suggested that i listen to The Best Show. i've heard the show before and don't really care for it, but wiley has told me repeatedly that it takes a while to "get" it, aka "enjoy" it. so i decided to give it a whirl, even though the premise of spending my time listening to something that i don't particularly like, in the hopes of maybe at some point liking it somewhat, does not generally appeal to me.
the episode i was listening to had zach galifianakis as a guest for part of the time. i thought it was going to be great. i had high hopes of being entertained and maybe even actually laughing. but frankly i found the majority of the show boring and slow. the only part i truly enjoyed was when milo, the 10 year old, called in, which only took up a fraction of this seemingly endless nightmare i was experiencing. i can kind of see what might be appealing about this show. maybe i'm just not funny or informed or attentive enough to find the subtle humor in it. wiley hasn't been able to explain or describe to me what he enjoys about the show. can you?
for example, one guy was explaining that he doesn't like the food at wendy's, so he brings in fries from mcdonalds, which is a mildly funny idea. after he said it, tom repeated it back, slowly. then the guy confirmed that he had indeed said what he had said, and elaborated that he also brings a sandwich from somewhere else. again, mildly funny, and again, tom repeated what he said. and it kept going. and it just wasn't very funny. another person called and was talking about her experiences as a census worker. also not funny. at all. i'm just frustrated because i want to like this show but i don't! i hate it! what am i missing?? please help me this is embarrassing

last night was just fanstastic. wiley and i went on a double date with dorrie and bill. we drank beers, ate burritos, and discussed several important topics- including, but not limited to: electro-shock therapy, lobotomies, rapists, castration, testicles and erections. and that was only phase I of the evening.
phase II: jaws on the beach. i had never seen jaws before! it's a really good movie! we were sitting right by the ocean so most of the time it felt like we were there, in the movie, on amity island. i also was pleased to see my good friend larry sheffey on the big screen:

it's hard to see here, but that's larry on the right. i'd bet my life on it. wiley thinks it might be alex schlegel. he might be right.
