this is cruel

just got an email from the dunes...guess they're trying to rub it in that today is probably the coldest day of the year and all i want is to be at the bottom of the dunes' pool.

you should really click on the newletter and read some of it, it's crazy. "The beach, the warm sun...remember the feeling of having your feet in the sand? The delightful sound of the ocean waves churning and crashing? A seagull overhead singing in his own language?"

the good news is, now there's a pool bar!! can't wait for OC 2010 it's going to be ta bomb!

Panda fever is so intense in Thailand, since the birth of its cub, Li Ping, last May, that zookeepers are painting crocs and elephants in panda colors just to get some of the attention. Li Ping, whose parents are on loan from China, has millions of fans and a 24-hour television channel, reports the Wall Street Journal, and the cub has been a bonanza for the zoo: "It's like winning the lottery," says the director, who often wears a panda-suit for interviews.
Aquariums and animal parks are eager to cash in, as well as educate visitors about Thailand’s own endangered animals. "They're an endangered species, too, like the panda, so we hope some of our knowledge will trickle down," says a crocodile wrangler who's painting baby crocs to appeal to school children. And it seems to be working: said one young visitor, “crocodiles are scary but this one is cute.”

whodatnation

look, i'm not going to lie to you people, i might not have been entirely in my "right mind" while i was watching what felt like the first football game i've ever seen. WHO DAT! but i felt like there were SO many ads- i.e., more than two- about how men are pussies. i'll give an example of one that i can remember: a guy is being dragged around by his girlfriend who is bra-shopping, but fortunately he has some app on his phone that lets him watch the superbowl anyway. What?! oh, here's another one: all these different guys talking about how they are pathetic and their lives are terrible but it's ok because they DRIVE A DODGE?!?! here, you can re-watch that one right now if you don't believe me/remember.

what's up men? you guys are supposed to be chugging beers and sweating on blonde women and driving way cooler cars than this! WHO DATDATDATDATDAT!

What’s Wrong With Milk and Eggs?

No species naturally drinks milk beyond infancy, and no species would naturally drink the milk of a different species. Cow’s milk is designed for baby cows, who have four stomachs and gain hundreds of pounds in a matter of months, sometimes weighing more than 1,000 pounds before their second birthday.

For humans, milk has been linked to heart disease, some types of cancer, diabetes, and even osteoporosis, the very disease that the dairy industry claims it is supposed to prevent! The high animal-protein content of milk actually causes calcium to be leached from the body. According to a Harvard Medical School analysis of the evidence, milk does not protect against osteoporosis. In fact, according to Harvard’s nutritionists, countries with low calcium intake (just 300 mg/day) tend to have a lower incidence of hip fractures (an indication of osteoporosis) than those countries with higher calcium consumption rates.

Milk is also loaded with fat and cholesterol and contains an everincreasing variety of pesticides and antibiotics that are fed to cows. You can get all the calcium that you need from the plant world—tofu, broccoli, beans, grain, and calcium-fortified orange juice are all good sources.

Serving up just one egg for breakfast each morning can raise your cholesterol level by as much as 10 points! The human body makes all the cholesterol it needs for maintaining healthy nerves and cell membranes. The consumption of additional cholesterol through animal products, the only other sources of cholesterol, subjects the human body to a potential overload, leading to clogged arteries and heart disease.

Eggs are a primary carrier of salmonella, which sickens more than a million people and kills over 500 every year in the U.S. alone.

Vegetarians and vegans live, on average, six to 10 years longer than meat-eaters.

perks

on the radio this morning, the DJ referenced a Parks and Recreation episode where Leslie gets a free MRI from a guy she is on a date with (Will Arnett) (her hubby IRL) (good episode), and then asked listeners to call in and share stories of perks they have gotten from a relationship.

they. were. insane.

one lady (they were all pretty much ladies talking about perks from men they dated) was married to a mover who was constantly gifted with items people couldn't fit in their new house (couches, tvs, etc.) whatever. that's fine.

another lady always got free burgers from a restaurant because the assistant manager had a crush on her. similarly, the girlfriend of a man who worked at a meat counter always got "really good meat." ha ha gross.

a girl who moved from hawaii to dc (total idiot) was dating a guy who worked for FedEx so he shipped all her boxes overnight for free. i was pretty jealous of that one.

a guy who worked at a gun range gave his girlfriend free ammo and a free gun!

finally, this lady called who slept with her lawyer and then he became a judge and she "did him favors" and then won her case. a of all, that doesn't really count as a perk. b of all, ew. c of all, this leaves me concerned about the judicial system, laws, checks and balances, roe v. wade, et al. d of all, the perks of dating wiley include: watching him sleep, petting his hair while he is asleep, talking to him while he is asleep, putting him to sleep.

GOOD MORNING

what would you do if you ordered a coffee and the waitress brought it to you but instead of coffee there was a kitten in your cup? i think i might be mad, but then happy, and then probably mad again.
